Spring time hiking 2004
During spring time I am always eager to get hiking. I'm barely able to wait until I can get tent spikes into the ground without a hammer, and until it stays above zero centigrade during nights. Spring 2004 was very warm, and while hiking in Lake Helvetinjärvi National Park, it was around 25 degrees centigrade, during first week of May! Next trip was to Seitseminen National Park, and then again to Lake Helvetinjärvi National Park with my daughter. She is five years old, and this was her first night in tent.
Sleeping and hiking in the forest was an experience, now she wants to go to Lappland. Perhaps next year, I was seven when hiking with my father for the first time in Lappland. I guess I am not hiking alone any more next year...
And as you can see from the picture above, my daughter has found interest in photography as well. Do not tell her yet, but one of her birthday presents will be a small digital camera. I have to keep up a tradition here, I got my first camera at about six or seven. It was Agfa Rapid, and you can take square pictures to 35mm film with it. The pictures were actually very sharp, it is not that complicated to make a film camera... Black and white prints were made in the ad hoc darkroom of my father, in the toilet, in the glow of the yellow darkroom lamp.
Onsku's present camera does not fullfill the criteria of a camera, in my opinion, actually it is a freebie given away with Nokia 9210 communicator for the early birds. You can not make prints out of those digital files. Within weeks I hope this generation will make prints together, this time in the corner of the kitchen, in the glow of the computer monitor.
This series of images is from Lake Helvetinjärvi National Park and Seitseminen National Park. Images are taken with eight megapixel Sony DSC-F828 digital camera and retouched lightly in Photoshop.
